I write to have influence and impact through well-told stories of my Louisiana Pineywoods life.

Talking to Yourself

Some stories are too funny not to tell. They say you should be careful talking to yourself out loud: especially when you start answering back. 2 Successful Operations: A healed body… and a new heart.

One of my heroes, Bobby Bonds, told me this story a few years before his death: As a teenager his Sunday School teacher was a WWII veteran named “Red” Harvey. Mr. Harvey told the boys in his class this amazing story: “During the war, my plane was shot down over Germany and I was badly injured before parachuting into enemy …

"Be still and know that I am God… a verse with a promise.

Be Still and Know Originally written May 1993 On a beautiful Spring Saturday, my three sons and I went to work on the nature trail at the camp.  As we hiked through the woods with our saw, pruning shears, and other gear, we were filled with the camaraderie of boys and dads in the woods. My youngest son, Terry, age …

Where does your ripple effect reach?

A Special Meeting

A special photo from a special meeting Last night we traveled to Shreveport for a missionary commissioning service.  55 new International Mission Board  appointees were commissioned for overseas service.  It was an inspiring service that I’ll never forget. I took the photo below after the service.  There’s a special connection between these two couples who’d never met. Gordon Fort and …

My favorite current passage from A Good Place. I read the following story to a Sr. Adult group earlier in the week.  One lady laughed so hard I thought we were going to have to do the Heimlich Maneuver on her. Here is it for you to read, enjoy, and laugh. Author’s note:  Mayo Moore, preteen son of Joe and …

Forgiveness: Build A Bridge And Get Over It

Forgiveness: what a word!!! I stood before the thirty summer staffers in the camp dining hall. We had all just returned from a great weekend in Houston. It was now time to return to the world of camp and get ready for 400 campers arriving the next morning. During our Houston weekend I’d shared mini-devotions on Joseph. After returning to …
