Luthansa allows __________ on baggage

Ethiopian Air allows ________ on baggage

Pack light!  Get luggage scale for checking luggage weight.

Checked Baggage:  Mark all of team’s luggage with bright tape.  Put address labels on outside.  Paper inside with your US contacts/Ugandan contacts.

Take smartphone photos of all luggage.

Split four team’s labeled/bagged items among all luggage (in case of lost piece of luggage.)

Back pack for upcountry travel

Suitcase or footlocker for items you’re bringing but won’t need in bush.

Carry on:  Be sure your essentials are in carryon:

Meds/Bible/Journal/Health-Beauty items  (study limits on fluids in carry-ons)

Double check size requirements. Airlines have gotten persnickety on size.

Small Backpack  (Stow in overhead)

Carry Bag/Man Bag   Keep with you under seat.

Suggested Clothing:  clothing that will dry quickly.

3 button up shirts   (Magellan/Columbia style “fishing shirts.)

3 tee shirts.   Starter/Under Armor style.

3 pairs of pants   Lightweight and comfortable.  I carry one pair of jeans but my redneckishness coming out.

1 pair of shorts/zip off pants

3-4 pairs of underwear     I swear by Ex-Officio. Expensive but easy to wash/dry.

3 pairs of socks  (Athletic/Smart wool)

Light fleece   We’ve been told July weather is cool in NW Uganda

Light rain jacket

Shoes     flip flops/sandals     comfortable shoes: tennis shoes or lightweight hikers

Hat or Cap.

Bandanas

Ministry Items

Storying Cloths   Please bring 20-30 of the IMB cloths.

Your Bible/Journal

Essentials

Battery operated personal fan  (good for cooling and noise)

Earplugs

Medications in plastic bag/holder

Clean items      Baby wipes

Small camping towel for washcloth/drying off/cleaning feet before bed  (Academy has cheap version.  I cut one into four sections.)

Inflatable neck pillow.  For travel and as sleep pillow.

Sun screen/Sunglasses

Food/Drink

MRE’s

Comfort Food   candy bars/sunflower seeds/Werther’s

Plastic Spoon/Coffee cup

Gatorade Mix in small packets

1 good water bottle.  (Stuff with Gatorade mix on trip over.)

Electrical

Charging cords    Plugs are three prong 220 UK type.

Camera   You can use smartphone or small point and shoot.  Your call.

Smartphone   You can bring your iPhone/Android if you wish.  Be sure to turn off data as you leave US to avoid astronomical bill.

We will have a small Nikoa cell phone for team to use.  It’ll have an Airtel SIM card and number loaded with start up minutes.  You can top off as needed.

Bob and I will both have our (unlocked) iPhones for your use if needed.

Tablets and Laptop:  Suggestion:  I’d bring my tablet but leave laptop behind.  We will have team laptop (Curt’s Mac) with portable modem/router.  You’re welcome to use for Skyping/etc.

Bring your iTunes playlist/Favorite sermons on phone or iPod.  Warning: I’ve got Jerry Clower and he’s going with us!

Cash and Credit/Debit Cards

You should be able to use US dollars in Frankfurt and Addis.  (Check this out.)

Have some small US bills for airport tips/snacks.

We are suggesting each of you bringing $1500 in US cash.  Recommended: $1300 in new (big-headed/clean/crisp) $100 bills.

$200 in new $20 bills.

We believe this will an excess in cash, but it is peace of mind.  See Budget

Remember that team will be paying expenses also on Iles and Calvert.  Thanks in advance!

Split the money into several places on your body.  Billfold in front pocket/money belt/money neck pouch/small pack.

Use of credit/debit cards will be limited.  Be sure to contact your card provider and tell your travel dates and locations.  (“I’ll be in Germany/Ethiopian/Uganda in late July and August.“)

Keep your passport, tickets/cash secure but readily available.

Your team will make the call on end of trip game drive/Nile trip.  We’ll be forwarding estimated expenses.
