From Journal #159
Say it now. Don’t put off words to your loved ones, family, and friends.
From Seth Godin:
“Saying N0”
Most of the work I had to do on this was work on myself, figuring out how to become more comfortable saying No, and figuring out how to let the other parties feel their painful feelings when I say No.
It was, and sometimes still is, very difficult.
At first, I choked and blushed. Now I speak up more.
My favorite phrases are fogging phrases:
- I’m feeling uncomfortable with this.
- I’ll have to think about that.
- I’m not sure I can fit that into my schedule.
These are vague and polite ways to say No!
Just say no, especially if there is a burning Yes in your heart that needs elbow room.
