Seeing the Real Alaska

It’s always about nature and meeting new folks.

I’m not a very good tourist; I’m an observant traveler.

Here are some of the things we’ve seen.

From train platform

 

We spent the day going up the famed White Pass. This is the steep climb that prospectors climbed on their way to the Klondike gold fields.

This valley goes by several names: Torment Valley; Dead Horse Valley.

Miners quickly found that pack animals couldn’t survive the climb.

The prospectors were prohibited by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police from entering the Yukon Territory without one ton of gear.

I read where one miner man-hauled his supplies 42 loads to meet the quota.

Gold fever is an amazing thing.
