Thoughts from The Creek

My Mantra at 69

  1. Stay Curious
  2. Be Amazed
  3. Share Moving Stories.

That’s it. That’s what I do.

I’ve never lost that child-like curiosity.

How does that work?

How’d you get here?

Tell me more.

Ask questions and listen, and you’ll learn so much about the world, especially people.

We all love talking about ourselves and a simple nudge like, “Is that so?”  or “Tell me more.”

Keep asking questions.

Keep listening.

Smile, keep eye contact, and nod from time to time.

The amazing things you’ll learn.

And the moving human interest stories you’ll pass on.

So simple.  Stay Curious. Be Amazed. Share Moving Stories.

“Curiosity might be one of the most undervalued qualities in the modern world. The tendency to ask questions is an inborn human trait, but it often diminishes as we grow older. In adulthood, many of us become more concerned with having the answers than exploring the possibilities. Yet curiosity is the gateway to deeper understanding – and a more meaningful connection with the world.”

See Dirt?

Throw seeds.

See seeds?

Pour water.

I’m a farmer.

The seeds I attempt to sow are gospel seeds.

I’m not a preacher.  I’m  a farmer.

I sow seeds about My Jesus through words– books, articles, blogs, podcasts, and newsletters.

I’m privileged that through the amazing world of Connectivity, my gospel seeds can circle the world.

That’s what I attempt to do daily.

See dirt. Sow seeds.

“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor.”

“For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

“Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.”

“If those seats could talk!”

“Stay curious.
Be amazed.
Sharing moving stories.”

That’s what I do. It’s who I am.

How many thousands have walked by these sidewalk seats without knowing or showing curiosity?

May that never be said of me.

Two original seats from the old Yankee Stadium.

Corner of 8th and Johnston near Rapides Courthouse in front of Guillory’s Bail Bondsman (Alexandria, Louisiana)

Seats from the original Yankee Stadium! (Yankee Stadium 1923-2008)

What are some of the highlights they saw?

I’ll get us started:

“The House That Ruth Built.”

Joe Louis knocks out Max Schmeling in the first round, symbolizing US strength on the eve of World War II (1938)

Lou Gehrig’s Farewell (1939) “Today is a day that I feel the luckiest man on the face of the earth.”

Number 60

Number 61

Perfect!

“The Greatest Game Ever Played.” 1958 NFL Championship between the NY Giants and the Baltimore Colts. The overtime thriller that launched the modern NFL era.

The list goes on and on, sport after sport, cultural events, concerts, a touchstone of American history and culture.

I’d love your comments on additional famous games and events.

Does anyone know the story of how those two seats ended up on 8th Street?

P.S.  Don’t worry. They’re bolted down in solid concrete.

My bucket list: sit in those seats with all nine of my grandchildren (plus my Mom and Uncle Bill- in memory of my Dad.

“If you see dirt, throw seeds.

If you see seeds, pour water.”

My life is about sowing seeds of the gospel, and moving stories that encourage and inspire readers and listeners.

The platform God has given me through each of my books, social media, and a lifetime of friends, allows my seeds to travel far and wide.

I’m also privileged to be a water carrier, pouring life-water where I see plants.

A water carrier.
A shower of seeds.

It’s amazing that words can find good soil throughout the World. The Internet is a tool that spreads my books, blogs, and words far beyond Louisiana. It’s only a tool, but I’m responsible for making use of it in positive ways.

May I be found faithful as a shower and water carrier.
