Proverbs by the Day

A good Bible reading plan includes the book of Proverbs. It contains thirty-one chapters loaded with common sense,  wisdom, and insightful sayings.  By reading a chapter per day you can finish it in a month.  Then turn around and do it again. I’ve done this for years and still find nuggets of gold in Proverbs.

I’ll be writing a short devotion on my favorite verse in each chapter.

Proverbs 15 for March 15

15:3   “A gentle answer turns away wrath.”

How you say something is often as important as what you say.  As we live each day our words will either be a blessing or a curse.  The choice is on our tongue and in the attitude of our hearts.

A fellow can get in multiple arguments daily by his speech as well as a fistfight a day if he wishes.

Answering gently is not weakness.  It is the sign of strength in reserve and discipline. We once had a poster of a weathered Indian chief with this caption, “Nothing is stronger than gentleness. Nothing is more gentle than real strength.”

It’s true.   Lord, help my words be honest, gentle, and seasoned with salt today. Amen

My home and heart are both in the pines of western Louisiana.
