Wed. Sept. 14 Proverbs 14

April 14, 2010  Today’s 14/14 Proverb

Each heart knows its own bitterness and no one else can share its joy. Proverbs 14:10

If we only knew the burdens others are carrying, we’d find it hard to hate even our worst enemies.

If there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that we’re all fellow strugglers. And everyone is carrying some kind of burden.

Some burdens are visible, but most cannot be seen since we cannot look into the heart and soul of another person.

Therefore, I’m going to be kind to everyone I meet today. They’re all carrying burdens.

Even the person who rudely honks at me.

Even the crabby lady ahead of me in the long WalMart line.

Even the unfriendly man who ignores my greeting as we pass.

I’m going to cut them some slack because I know they’re struggling with something. We all are. We’re fellow strugglers.

I often think of a quote from my friend Charles Kendall: “Every Sunday morning there is enough pain on one church pew to make a thousand angels cry.”

When possible, I’m going to remind others of the hope and strong foundation I’ve found for my life journey. His name is Jesus and He always has had a heart for strugglers.

Even fellow strugglers like you and me.

Lord, help me to share Your hope today where there is struggle. Amen.
