Proverbs by the Day
April 3/Proverbs 3:27 Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act.
We often think of sin as doing something. Theologians refer to this as “acts of commission.” We commit an act: hurting others and disappointing God.
However, most of our sins (especially mine) are acts of omission. We choose not to do what we should.
As today’s proverbs states, we have the responsibility of “good action.” Here are three practical applications I’m going to (with God’s help) apply in my life:
1. When I have the opportunity to do a good deed, I’m going to do it.
2. When I have words of comfort/encouragement for a fellow struggler, I’m going to say them. I will choose to live a risky life by going to those who are hurting.
3. When I have the chance to show someone hospitality, I’m going to help them. i.e. if they come to my house, I’m going to invite them in and brew a pot of coffee.
Lord, teach me to give where giving is your will. Remind me that in every area of my life “it is more blessed to give than to receive.” Amen.
