A Sad Falling-Out

This is an excerpt from Chapter 17, “A Falling Out,” in Where I Come From.

THOUGHTS ON FALLING-OUTS

One of the saddest things I’ve seen during the recent election is the trail of broken relationships.

I call a broken relationship a “Falling-Out.” It goes well beyond a disagreement or argument.
It leads to estrangement and isolation. As we’d say back home, “That just ain’t right.”
Regretfully, the longer a falling-out festers, the harder it is to reconcile.

Chapter 17 in ‘Where I Come From’ deals with three fallouts. Two have happy endings. The following doesn’t.

I’ll be FB-Posting today with additional excerpts from Chapter 17, “A Falling Out.” I’ll post the entire chapter tomorrow on my blog at www.creekbank.net

Sadly, I observed other blood family members arrive who had not spoken with their sister in twenty years.
They had lots of tears and a ton of regret. It’s hard to restore a falling out when one party is lying unconscious and dying.
I’m sure there were two sides to this falling-out. It’s nearly always that way.
My friend died estranged from her sisters.
That’s a burden they’ll have to bear.
That makes it even sadder.
Don’t wait.
